From Fallen Fir to Fine Lumber
When a friend’s massive fir tree came down in a storm, he gave me a call and offered the wood—no hesitation, I said yes. I knew right away it could be turned into some great lumber. Thankfully, I’ve got a friend with a portable sawmill, and the two of us spent about four hours cutting that tree into boards.
Some of those boards are going to a good cause: a lean-to I’m building for a friend. The rest will be used for my own projects. I’ve got to say, the quality of this lumber is incredible—way better than what you find at the local store. There’s something deeply satisfying about turning a fallen tree into usable wood. It feels like honoring the tree’s life by giving it a new purpose.
